Tile flooring has been around for a very long time. The ancient Chinese developed porcelain and the ancient Egyptians developed ceramic; we have been using both ever since. But today’s products have new glazing techniques to make them more resistant to scratches and water penetration. They also can be laid with heated strips to keep them warm and comfortable for bare feet in the wintertime. Indeed, the ancients never dreamed of applications like this.
A standard
Tile flooring is a standard for a permanent floor that is well suited for areas that get moisture from spills and splashes. Historically, they have been used in kitchens, bathrooms, and entranceways, so there is no need to be concerned if moisture would be introduced. They also work well in basements and other areas where the subfloor is concrete, providing a solid, durable floor upon which to walk. Design
One of the advantages of tile flooring is that you can add a great deal of personalized design to the room in which it is being installed. There are border pieces and inlays available, which add a classy look to any living space. Additionally, pieces can be installed in an offset pattern or at a 45-degree angle from the wall, creating a distinct appearance and breaking up the floor’s overall look.
Warmth
Another option is heated tile flooring. Heating elements are installed just below the flooring. These are set on a thermostat to bring up the temperature of the floor on cold days. Bare feet on cold floors are a thing of the past with this product. This product is used for bathrooms, but it can be used in any area where a tile floor is installed.
